Four sophomore girls are turning their retreat inspiration into a microphone-powered mission. What started as a spark during a faith-filled retreat has grown into Bible Breakdown, a student-led podcast focused on bringing Scripture into everyday life.
The podcast was created by sophomores Maggie Knoll, Becca Causie, Sonia Butler, and Maddie Friedrich. Together, they encourage listeners to see Scripture not just as words on a page, but as a guide for daily living.
The idea began during the first semester when Becca, Maggie, and Sonia attended a retreat. When they returned, they felt inspired to grow stronger in their faith and to help others grow alongside them. That inspiration led them to create Bible Breakdown.
The podcast, which includes both audio and video formats, centers on Scripture, reflection, and personal faith stories. Most of the first episode is already recorded, and the group is currently working on editing and learning how to upload their content. The first episode is expected to be released soon on Spotify.
The girls record their podcast in Mr. Marcero’s room, which includes two studio spaces. One challenge they have faced is learning the technical side of editing and uploading, but they are working hard to produce a meaningful and high-quality podcast. New episodes are expected to be released approximately every two weeks.
Each episode follows a consistent format. It begins with a “Verse of the Day,” chosen by Becca, which helps guide the discussion. This is followed by either a Lectio Divina or a discussion of a parable, which varies from episode to episode. The podcast also features a guest segment, in which someone shares a personal faith story. Each episode concludes with a reflection segment called “How have we seen Jesus this week?” where the hosts share how they have encountered Christ in their daily lives.
Through Bible Breakdown, the group hopes to encourage others to grow in their faith and recognize the presence of Jesus in everyday moments. As Sonia explained, “We want people to know that faith isn’t something we only talk about on a retreat. It’s something you live every day.”
