What would you do if you saw a dead priest talking to you late at night? You may have
heard some of the many stories of the spirits on the loose here at Lumen Christi. Many of the
longtimers could tell you stories that make you throw your popcorn and want to scream. I
was able to sit down with a couple of them – Mr. Sean Brogan and Mr. Jesse Brown. They told
me some of their scariest moments here at Lumen, although some are too scary to be told.
Night time here at Lumen has been said to give the sensation that someone is right
behind you watching you, almost like a scary basement, but much worse. Sometimes that
feeling and the little voice in your head that says “do not look back” is real. According to both Mr.
Brown and Mr. Brogan, the late janitor told a story that makes them afraid to be alone at Lumen
to this day.
The story goes that the janitor was walking by the chapel to fix a water leak late at night.
When he walked past, he saw a priest. He said to the priest, “good evening, father” and the priest
turned around and said back “good evening.” He realized the priest was Fr. Lynch, who had
been deceased for many years. He dropped his tool bag and ran. Later the janitor looked at the
cameras, and saw himself talking to no one. It is said that this is where Fr. Lynch hangs out, so next time you are here alone, don’t look back, don’t look right, and don’t look left – just look straight ahead, or you might catch a glimpse of something that gives you a scare. Even Mr. Brown agrees. “I do not go in the front
part of the school alone after dark.”
There are many more stories to share, but I will save
those for another time. However, if you want a real scare now, ask Mr. Brogan about his old
friend, Johnny.
