Standing over her client, junior Claire Kalahar carefully brushes gel across the eyebrows, beginning a process she has practiced and refined through the Career Center’s esthetics program. For first-time clients, the sensation might feel unfamiliar—but for Claire, it’s all part of mastering her craft. For years, Lumen Christi juniors and seniors have had the opportunity to attend the Career Center. There are many different programs available for students at the career center. Claire Kalahar and Kara LaMarre, both juniors, attend schooling there for the Esthetics program.
They have learned how to do many different services. Some of these services include different types of waxing, facials, makeup tutorials, eyelash services, and eyebrow services. Claire and Kara are now allowed to take appointments on certain days. They take place in the morning between 8:30 and 10:00. Each service is charged differently but they generally range between $10–$40. “The students do not earn any of the money from the service, but we do receive tips, ” according to LaMarre. The money from the appointment goes back to the school to pay for supplies.
I went in to receive an eyebrow lamination by Claire and it was a very good experience. They have a special area set up to provide the services. There is soothing music playing and a calming ambiance. It was an amazing experience. If you would like to experience it for yourself, Claire says, “Contact myself or Kara. The career center will text you to confirm your appointment and make sure there will be no problems during the appointment.” If my experience is typical, then I can say you won’t regret it!
