Senior Dorothy Greogry-Blair is an artist in design class whose work is bold, colorful, and
meaningful. She recently completed a painting showing a woman in a
living room with a purple couch surrounded by red, pink, purple, and orange colors. “I’m most
proud of this painting,” Dorothy said. “I love how colorful it is and how everything comes
together.” She created the piece by drawing it on paper and tracing it using a projector.
Dorothy realized she was good at art in eighth grade, and her creativity has continued to
grow since then. Living in New York played a huge role in inspiring her artistic style. “Seeing all
the graffiti around really got me into art,” she explained. She often uses Pinterest to find
inspiration, combining different photos into one idea, and she is inspired by many musicians.
Dorothy enjoys adding fashion into her artwork and plans to attend Kent State University for
fashion design.
Art is also a way for Dorothy to express her identity and culture. “Here, I feel like I have
to express my Black culture in my art,” she said. She believes patience is important in the
creative process and encourages others not to aim for perfection. “Practice and don’t worry
about being perfect,” Dorothy shared. “Art isn’t meant to be perfect.”
