Junior Peyton Best didn’t expect her views on life issues to change, but a chance encounter in the commons led her to rethink what she believed. This group tries to teach all of the students why it is so important to be pro-life. Peyton Best is a prime example of how Students For Life can change views.
Peyton was just in middle school when she started to re-think her beliefs. She had always been pro-choice and voiced that opinion very clearly. She never thought her views on pro-life vs. pro-choice would change. While walking to the gym one day, Peyton noticed Students For Life hosting a question-and-answer activity in the commons and decided to stop and listen. “They weren’t pushy at all and were just willing to talk and answer questions,” Peyton said. Those conversations sparked an interest, and she went to go and do her own research. Peyton said she realized how important it is to value every life, no matter the circumstances.
At first, Peyton was nervous about how others would react to her changing views and worried they might question her motives, perhaps thinking she was doing it to stack her resume. Everyone was so welcoming of her, and she soon learned to be confident with her beliefs and that it’s okay to grow and ask questions. One of her favorite parts of being a part of the Students For Life group is the March for Life, which is held in Lansing. By staying open to discussion and asking questions, Peyton gained confidence in her beliefs and learned that it is okay to grow and change.
