On any given school day at Lumen Christi High School, the rhythm of the halls seems to match
the pace of Rylie O’Dowd’s schedule which is busy, upbeat, and always moving.
The day starts early for O’Dowd, who arrives at school ready to balance classes, friendships,
and a full slate of after-school activities. Known among classmates for her friendly personality,
she’s rarely seen walking alone. Between periods, she’s catching up with friends, sharing laughs
at lockers, and making quick plans for later in the day.
In the classroom, O’Dowd keeps her focus on schoolwork while also talking with her friends in
accounting class knowing that once the final bell rings, her attention shifts to the court. As a
member of the Lumen Christi girls basketball team, afternoons usually mean practice. O’Dowd
gets to work, running drills, refining plays, and pushing herself alongside teammates.
“It’s a lot to balance, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” O’Dowd said. “Being on the team with
my friends and my sister makes every long day worth it.” Her sister, Erin, is a sophomore on the team. The sisters share more than just a last name; they share a love for the game. Whether it’s encouraging each other during drills or celebrating a well-executed play, their bond adds an extra layer of energy to practices.
After practice wraps up, O’Dowd heads home tired but satisfied, having fit academics, athletics,
and friendships into one full day. It’s a routine she clearly enjoys.
For Rylie O’Dowd, life at Lumen Christi is about staying connected to her team, her friends, and
her family. When tomorrow comes, she’ll be back in the halls, ready to do it all over again.
