The Lumen Christi girls basketball team earned an exciting 50-49 victory over Detroit Edison after Lucy Wrozek knocked down a clutch game-winning shot in the final moments.
With the clock winding down and down by two, the pressure was high for the Titans. With just seconds left, coach Stine called a time out to run a final play. Wrozek admitted nerves were present in the huddle. “Before the play actually happened, I was pretty nervous,” she said. “But I knew if I got the ball, I could knock down the shot.”
The final possession was designed to give Lumen Christi multiple scoring options. “The play was drawn up for Kenna (Hunt) to get a layup, me to get a three-point shot, or Erin (O’Dowd) with the ball up top,” Wrozek explained. When the defense shifted, Wrozek found herself open and confidently took the shot, sealing the win for the Titans.
The moment was not only important for the team, but also for Wrozek personally. “That shot definitely helped boost my confidence for the rest of the season by proving to myself that I can make high-pressure shots in high-pressure situations,” she said. Her shooting from the arc has steadily improved in the last several years.
The win over Detroit Edison showed Lumen Christi’s ability to stay composed under pressure and execute when it mattered most. With strong teamwork and growing confidence, the Titans will look to build off this momentum as the season continues.
