After finding out over the summer that he needed heart surgery, Lumen Christi history teacher Mr. Cooper spent the first part of the school year recovering at home. Now, after months of rest and healing, he’s finally back in the classroom — and students couldn’t be happier.
“I missed a lot of my old students,” Mr. Cooper said. “We always had fun together — it’s more than just reading a textbook. I want my class to be fun.”
While he was gone, Mr. Ratchford stepped in to teach his classes and keep things running smoothly. Students appreciated his effort, but many admit it wasn’t quite the same without Mr. Cooper.
Returning on Monday, October 13, Mr. Cooper said the first day back brought a mix of nerves and excitement. “It feels different since everyone’s already a quarter into the year,” he said, “but it’s amazing to be here again.”
After months away, Mr. Cooper is back where he belongs — laughing with students, telling stories, and making history come alive once more.
