The Lansing Catholic Quad on 9/6/25 featured top teams such as Lansing Catholic, Father Gabriel Richard, and Flint Powers. Our team dominated the competition, taking home the first-place trophy and 11 gold medals. We won the quad by a margin of eight matches—an achievement that only elite programs can pull off. This victory marked our third quad win of the season, and we’re only halfway through the schedule.
The following week, we hosted Liggett, the number-one team in the state, on 9/13/25. Although they defeated us 6–2 overall, we still secured important individual victories. Jason Gonerka earned gold at 3 singles, while Theo McEldowney and Nolan Curtis captured gold at 4 doubles, proving that our players can compete at the highest level against the #1 team in the state. Nolan Curtis reflected on his tough Liggett matchup, saying, “Liggett was a scary match for us, especially since we lost the first set 4–6, and now all the pressure was on us to come back.” And come back they did—after adjusting their playstyle with different shot selections and targeting, they won the second set 7–5. They then claimed the super tiebreaker 10–8, despite trailing 3–6 at one point.
Our rivalry with Father Gabriel Richard has also been a highlight of the season. We face them four times this year, and as of 9/18/25, we’ve already gone 2–0 against them, winning both matches 7–1. Currently, our team is ranked #2 in the state, just behind Liggett, with #1 individual rankings at 3 singles and 4 doubles thanks to our wins against them.
With multiple quad championships, dominant performances over key rivals, and individual state leaders in several flights, this season is shaping up to be one of the strongest in program history. The team has shown depth, resilience, and championship-level talent—and with the season only halfway through, the best may be yet to come.
