This wasn’t your average Friday afternoon. Under a blazing sun to close out Homecoming week, the LC field turned into a stage for one of the wildest Powderpuff finishes in recent memory. The sophomores in black rolled over the tie-dye juniors, while the seniors in green handled the pink freshmen. That set up the championship everyone wanted: sophomores vs. seniors, swagger vs. experience.
Early on, it looked like the seniors had it locked. Kloé Franklin was a one-woman highlight reel, rumbling in for two rushing touchdowns, set up by a timely Paige Lefere interception. At halftime, the seniors were strutting; the sophomores were gasping for air in the heat.
But here’s the thing about sophomore Kenna Hunt: she doesn’t blink. First, a rushing TD to close the gap. Then, a pick-six off Lily Ganton that tied the game late. The entire sideline went ballistic. Suddenly, the seniors—backed into their own end zone with 16 seconds left—handed away the title on a safety. Ballgame. Sophomores 2027: two-time, back-to-back champions.
The seniors didn’t walk off with the trophy—they walked off to a dirge (a funeral hymn, from the Latin dirige, meaning “guide,” and it definitely fit the mood). Still, senior Alitza Compte wasn’t having it: “Seniors won in spirit. We looked drippier anyways.”
