In a thrilling moment for Lumen Christi High School, Kadale Williams, the team’s star running back, broke the school’s touchdown record this past Friday night. Williams, a standout player in Michigan high school football, now holds the title for most touchdowns in the history of a program that has already claimed 13 state championships. For Williams, the record is a dream come true, adding his name to Lumen Christi’s storied legacy under the guidance of longtime head coach Herb Brogan.
“It feels unreal,” Williams shared. “I’ve been dreaming about this since I started playing for Lumen Christi. Knowing the legacy here, especially with Coach Brogan and 13 state championships, it means a lot to be part of that history.”
Coach Herb Brogan, a pillar of the Lumen Christi football program, has led the team to remarkable success over his career. Watching Williams break the touchdown record is just one more highlight in a coaching journey marked by dedication and championships.
“It’s incredible,” Brogan said, reflecting on Williams’s achievement. “Kadale’s talent and work ethic are exceptional, and he embodies what Lumen Christi football stands for. Watching him break this record has been a joy for all of us. He’s part of a long tradition, and I think he’ll inspire future players here.”
The record-breaking moment itself was unforgettable in a game against a tough Kalamazoo Hackett team and it happened in a special place (Ford Field). Williams crossed the end zone to score the historic touchdown on a door shutting drive against the incredible team not knowing that put him in the history of the awesome resilient program and it wasn’t until his teammates swarmed around him that he fully realized the gravity of his achievement.
“It’s funny, I didn’t really process it until after I crossed the end zone,” he laughed. “The team piled around me, and it hit me that I’d just made history. I felt grateful for my teammates, my coaches, and the Lumen Christi community. I couldn’t have done it without their support.”
When asked about what sets Williams apart from other players, Coach Brogan didn’t hesitate. “Kadale is not just a talented athlete; he’s a leader,” he explained. “He puts in the extra work, stays humble, and lifts everyone around him. Players like him are rare, and that’s why he’s accomplished so much.”
For Williams, breaking the record is just one step in a larger journey. His focus now is on helping Lumen Christi bring home another state championship under Coach Brogan’s leadership.
“I want to focus on the season and helping us bring home another state championship,” he said. “Coach Brogan has built something special here with all the championships, and I’d love to add one more to that legacy before I graduate.”
Williams also offered advice to younger players aspiring to leave their own mark on the game. “Stay committed and keep working hard,” he encouraged. “Records are great, but it’s about the team and doing your best for them every game. Trust in your coaches and be willing to put in the work even when no one’s watching.”
With Williams leading the way, Lumen Christi’s chances of another successful season look promising, and Coach Brogan couldn’t be prouder. “It’s been an amazing journey with this team and players like Kadale,” he said. “We’re ready for whatever comes next.”
