Students for Life
All Lives Matter
With so many various clubs and activities to get involved in at Lumen Christi, it’s hard to keep track of them all. Students for Life is one of the lesser known clubs that gets the majority of its recognition from the March for Life trip to Washington D.C. But what is the club beyond the trip? It’s more than what comes to mind for many students: it deals with issues besides abortion and has other events that students can get involved in if they can’t go on the trip to D.C. In addition to working to stop abortion, the Students for Life club aims to help with suicide prevention, poverty, racial equality, the respect for the lives of the elderly, and other vulnerable or underrepresented groups. The club works to preserve the sacredness of life in whatever ways possible and its members are always looking for new ways to make this happen. This year, a few club members attended a dinner hosted by the Right to Life of Jackson where they were treated to a catered meal as they listened to a prolife speaker. Another one of the club’s events is Life Chain in which people from all around Jackson line the streets to pray for an end to abortion. As the year progresses, the club hopes to take part in more events and increase community involvement. However, organizing and coordinating club events cannot be done without an executive committee. This year’s treasurer is Alex Soltis, the event coordinator is Kate Ganton, the vice president is Lucy Martin, the president is Faith Smith, the secretary is Khiya Hunt, and the outreach director is Grace Melville. The 2021 executive board is eager to expand the club and is hoping to attract new members. If you are interested in joining the club or want more information, one of the board members or Ms. Messiter, the club moderator, would be happy to help!
